The neighbourhood

Nepali food in the middle of the city

Commerce Street sits in the block between Britomart and Fort Street, office towers on one side, bars and lunch spots on the other. It's a street people walk through on the way somewhere, which suits us: momos are made to be eaten quickly and well, not stretched over an hour.

Lunch is busy with the Britomart and Commercial Bay crowd grabbing momos, chowmein or meat on chips. Evenings are quieter and slower, a good time to work through a plate of sekuwa or a bowl of thukpa. Weekends bring in families and the Nepali community from across Auckland, which is the compliment we care about most.

If you've been looking for dumplings in the CBD, this is the Nepali version: momos with chicken, buff and vegetarian fillings, served with tomato achar.

Where exactly is Snax in Auckland CBD?
We're at Shop 8, 8 Commerce Street, Auckland CBD, Auckland 1010. Commerce Street runs between Customs Street East and Fort Street, at the bottom of town. It's a two-minute walk from Britomart station and about five minutes from Britomart's Queen Street entrance.
Is there parking nearby?
Commerce Street has metered on-street parking, and the Britomart and Downtown car parks are both within a short walk. Most of our lunchtime customers walk in from nearby offices, and evening pickups are easiest with a short-stay street park.
What's the closest public transport?
Britomart Transport Centre, trains, the City Link and most inner-city buses, is a two-minute walk away. That makes us an easy stop on the way home from town.
Is this a good spot for a cheap CBD lunch?
It is what most of our lunch trade is. Sides start at $6.99, a full plate of momos is $16.99, and pickup carries no delivery-app markup. Order ahead from your desk and the cooking happens before you walk down. There is a full breakdown on our Auckland CBD lunch page.
Do you take walk-ins?
Always. We're a fast-casual kitchen, not a booking restaurant, so walk in and order at the counter. If you're in a hurry, order ahead online and skip the wait.
